If you're looking to set up your first-ever Hackintosh, and you really want it to be a laptop for some reason, then choose the 4540s.That being said, not everything is perfect with the 4540s. The amount of development that has gone into making Mac OS X work on this laptop is unprecedented- virtually every single feature of this laptop works in Mac OS X, including sound, graphics, power management, sleep mode, the HDMI port, HDMI audio, the battery meter, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, ethernet, and multi-touch gestures on the trackpad. The battery life for the 4540s on Mac OS X is about 3-4 hours, which isn't great, but it's not a dealbreaker, either.Hackintosh Ability: As usual, the HP Probook takes the gold medal for Hackintosh compatibility. A few models include discrete graphics cards, but you won't be able to use them- Mac OS X only works with the integrated graphics on most laptops. Overall, it's a very diverse selection no matter what you're looking for, the ProBook 4540s line will probably have the right laptop for you. Run the ProBook installer and install chimera (select chimera from the list of items to install). To fix this issue, boot into OS X using the installer USB (select the Mac partition when you boot from the USB). This is normal because Windows has replaced the chimera bootloader. Once Windows has been installed, you’ll notice that you can no longer boot into OS X. If you want a dual boot system with Windows, boot using the Windows DVD, and install Windows on the partition that we specified using disk utility (you can format the Windows partition as NTFS from the Windows setup, and the empty partition as FAT32 after you install Windows, so that both Windows and OS X can read/write data on it).
The tonymacx86 community is now working on bringing multi-touch gestures to the trackpad (although two finger swipe/scrolling works perfectly).Now if you’re happy with how your ProBook is running OS X, you can continue using it. According to most people, HDMI out, VGA out, sleep, audio, full graphics, Wi-Fi (if you have the Atheros card), webcam, in short, everything works.
